ABOUT ME

Hey there! I’m Axel Strynar, a designer from Boulder, Colorado. Currently studying Industrial Design under the Bachelor of Design degree at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, I plan on graduating in the winter of 2024.

My design philosophy seeks to question the norms of what is considered standard. To create objects that may not be obvious as to what they are and what space they fill; as I believe this purpose should only be fully revealed through curious play and interaction by its user. I believe that a designed object should serve to add a layer of intrigue to its user’s life, as well as providing its basic intended function. I am inspired by organic shapes and fluid lines that seek to challenge classic objects and oftentimes have the potential to be provocative to their user. I believe shapes like this hold a sort of power that makes them captivating and have the ability to command a dominance in a user’s life. I take great inspiration from the unusual and at times grotesque world of avant-garde fashion, which seeks to break the traditional form of the runway model. This playful form of counter culture combined with inspiration from monolithic objects ensures unique designs that hold a powerful presence that cannot be ignored; and challenge their users to break free from monotony.
